It’s Spring! A time for fresh starts and new beginnings. Below are 5 ways to embrace the new season and breathe fresh air into your group home or program.
1. Make plans for the second quarter of the year
March is the time to, if you haven’t already, begin planning for the second quarter of the year, which starts in April. Review what you’ve accomplished so far in the year and brainstorm to determine future goals and the actions you must take to accomplish them. For instance, maybe you want to implement a new program for your consumers that would involve a new piece of technology. A goal would be to purchase that new technology and teach it to your consumers, and/or support them in learning the technology on their own. Check out this post that describes how to implement a quarterly plan for business, which you can apply to your current situation and position within your organization.
2. Start Spring cleaning
While this is often a good time of year to physically clean dirt and debris from a place and purge and organize items as needed, it’s also a good time to do the same with your file folders and cabinets and computer documents. Go through and purge what’s no longer needed, make necessary copies of what you wish to keep, and neatly organize and put away the rest.
3. Review home regulation policies
Use this new season as a time to look over the rules and regulations of running your group home and providing care for your consumers. This also includes going over your consumers’ IEPs and other documentation to ensure you’re implementing their plans properly and in accordance with what’s been determined necessary for their health, safety, growth and quality of life.
4. Create a Spring life list
There are so many fun activities to take part in during the Spring months. However, with so much going on, it’s easy to miss out on attending if you don’t plan. Take the time now to look into what’s going on, what’s coming up, and plug into the calendar the events you wish to share with your consumers. Consider this your life list (what you want to accomplish in life/ bucket list) for the season.
Spring is a great time to make positive changes in your personal and work life. Have some ideas, make your plans and take action!
